Working from home, I kept feeling like a single laptop screen just wasn’t quite enough, so I picked up a magnetic laptop phone holder from AliExpress to see if I could turn my phone into a handy little second screen. It clips onto the side of the laptop, and I went ahead and ordered two in black. The price was so low that I honestly wasn’t expecting much, but it turned out to be more useful than I imagined, so I wanted to share my thoughts with you.
The structure is nice and simple: a base that attaches to the side of the laptop, a magnetic circular mount, and a rotating arm connecting the two. If your phone supports MagSafe, like an iPhone, it just snaps on directly, which is lovely. For phones without MagSafe, or ones in a case, you can attach a clear sticker and metal ring to the back first, then snap it onto the magnet. The hinge rotates a full 360 degrees, so you can adjust the angle however you like, and I really appreciated that.
Setting it up was genuinely easy. You just stick the clear sticker in the center of the back of the case, attach the metal ring securely on top, and then bring your phone up to the holder until it clicks in. Since my iPhone has MagSafe, I skipped that step entirely. I was pleasantly surprised by how strong the magnetic hold is – it doesn’t budge even if I give the laptop a little shake.
The design itself is slim, so it barely adds any bulk when I toss it in my laptop sleeve. The listing emphasizes a lightweight design, and I’d say that’s fair – you really don’t notice much added weight once it’s attached. The whole idea is a dual-screen setup for better productivity, and I’ve found it’s wonderful for keeping a messaging app or a map open next to whatever I’m working on.
I measured it myself, and it comes out to about 2.22 inches in diameter and 5 inches long, small enough to toss in a bag or laptop sleeve without any hassle. The “ultra-thin and easy to carry” claim wasn’t an exaggeration at all, in my experience.
One thing I found charming was that the listing also showed it mounted inside a car, on a dashboard like a Tesla’s, for navigation or music. I haven’t tried that particular use myself, but using it as a laptop accessory alone has already made me quite happy with the purchase.
I made sure to check the reviews before buying, and it’s sitting at a lovely 4.8 stars with 1,735 reviews. A good number of buyers left thoughtful, detailed reviews with photos rather than just a star rating, which I always appreciate. One reviewer mentioned getting the silver version for a MacBook Air and being pleased with how well the phone’s weight was balanced; another said the magnetic hold combined with the metal ring was strong enough that it was genuinely hard to pull apart once attached. Reviews like these made me feel much more confident about the purchase.
